Gerne haette ich ein Foto von dir online gestellt. Aus unerfindlichen Gruenden mangelt es mir jedoch an Bildmaterial

Once you're leaving Germany and living somewhere else, esp. in some metropolis, you start noticing all the weird things and stereotypes about living in some smaller german city.
Today is sunday, but I totally don't feel like sunday. Usually the word sunday comes along with sadness, boredom and bellyache (mostly due to the fact, that you were drinking on saturday). Streets are empty, stores are closed and people act weird. Well, that has changed now. I strolled down Whitechapel Road this morning, looking for some breakfast and just couldn't believe it's really sunday. All the stores were open, people were in a holiday-mood and the world seemed sunny & beautiful. For some reason I ended up having my breakfast in a BurgerKing - I guess some things never change.
The size of London. It's almost 30 times bigger than the city I come from. A third of London is parks and greens. Which renders Augsburg to a size of 1/10 of London's parks. You really do notice this, when you're entering Hyde Park, surrounded by skyscrapers on the one and Buckingham Palace on the other side - in the middle of the city. It's beautiful there: Lots of green, people are tanning, talking, listening to music, playing soccer or go skating. Heck, there's even a little sea in this park... but it takes ages to walk through it. Better be prepared
Great news: It is possible to have public transports working 24/7. Not all of them, of course. But there's always a way to get home. Anytime. Then again, it can always happen that a tube station is suddenly closed down for construction work over the weekend. Which is probably okay, if you keep in mind that 2.7 million passengers are transported daily with the London Underground tube only. Operating and administrating the tube lines costs 250.000 Pounds (370.000 Euros) per day.
Two London myths: 1. No, it doesn't rain all the time. Infact it seems to rain less than in Germany. 2. Yes, there are quite a few clubs and pubs where you can get drinks and beer past eleven.
Cheers,

Did you notice? Just after Google's IPO they try to offer us a new service daily. At least it seems so. Probably they have a few stacks of money left now - or are they just trying to keep the stock price up?
Anyway, I really enjoy the new services - esp. since I live in the UK, now.

Katie Price revealed that her disabled son "is hell" and dealing with him a "living nightmare".
Guess what, maybe ...
... he wouldn't be blind (Septo-Optic Dysplasia) if you didn't party and drink that much alcohol during pregnancy?
... he wouldn't suffer from "hormone deficiencies" and growth problems if you didn't do cocaine during pregnancy?
... he wouldn't start beating other people if you weren't such a stupid spoiled whore?
But yeah, I guess it's just fair that you start complaining now and tell the yellow press how much you're suffering and that "there is no reward in having a disabled kid". After all, it's all about you and not about your son, right? If we weren't talking about a helpless disabled kid, I would say you just deserved it.
Seems she finally noticed that having a kid is much more than the promised nine-month-lasting PR stunt.

My first week in London is over and I've been to quite some places already. Still there's so much left to see, just because London is so amazingly huge. Pictures can say more than words in this case, so just have a look at my gallery!

The first few days in London have passed pretty quickly and I'm really enjoying my life over here. The city is great so far, even though I only managed to visit a few places yet. I'm planning to go to some of the tourist attractions this weekend, when Mone will be joining me. Even cooler than "just living in London" is the great job I got. All the guys working at Last.fm are not only colleagues, but also friends you're working with on one project. That's rather self-motivating and I really enjoy my job for the first time since months or even years. Tonight we'll go to some pub around the corner, having some drinks and smalltalk. Looking forward to get a little drunk
Oh, btw: thanks to Felix for cooking a great meal for all of us. Serving food for seven people obviously ain't that easy
Keep on hacking,

Heh, that's what I look like the morning after Just woke up, the sun is shining and I went to have a drink on the patio. Salius is with me in the office. Later today, I'll setup my new computer in the office, probably installing ArchLinux. Maybe I should shower first, but that's not really a priority for now

I finally left Germany - for the better or the worse... we'll see.
Anyway, I'm now living in London and besides that I really do miss everyone already, I feel great. Thanks to David, who drove me to the Airport Munich, thanks to my parents for meeting me there and saying "Goodbye" and thanks to EasyJet for slightly delaying the flight, so I could enjoy my Whopper meal in a relaxed fashion.
Right now, I'm sitting in the Last.fm office, my new employer over here, watching some german TV-streams and preparing to head to the bed - err - couch, soon. Since London also means 24/7 shopping (which I really do like, did I mention that before? *g*), I was able to get some drinks and snacks for the night. On my way to the store I noticed a few empty flats, which are just around the corner, and are currently available to rent. The rental fees are scary, though. 250 Euros for a one-bedroom apartment. Great deal, hm? If I were talking about the monthly fee, sure. But I'm talking about friggin' WEEKLY fees. Let's hope I'm able to find something decent and not exactly that pricy.
In other news, the pope died. I'm honestly glad and happy he finally did. Although I can't stand the/any church, I always respected him as a person. I wish he would have been able to quit his "job" a lot earlier, so he would have had a chance to finish his life in a way he deserved it. It would really scare me to know that tens-of-thousands-of-people are standing in front of my house just waiting for me to die or that I would have to work and furfill my duty until the very last day of my life has arrived - no matter how exhausting it is. Just imagine you're that old, weak and sick and people still treat you like a fucking pop(e)star, not giving you the chance to have at least a few quiet and peaceful years at the end of your life.
Rest in peace - you are finally able to.
